SAVE WATER. DRINK Wine.

“R. Debauche’s mission is to offer great wines at a great price and have enough left over to drink ourselves.”

— Richard Sykes, founder

Grape Growers

R. Debauche considers the growers who provide the grapes as our partners in producing great wines. We only obtain grapes from friends and colleagues who we believe grow superior fruit at a good price.

Grape Growing Partners

Stokes Farms

Lodi, CA

Bill Stokes is the owner of Stokes Farms and in Lodi California where he grows over 100 acres of dry farmed zinfandel.

Chesebro Winery

Arroyo Seco, CA

Most of our grapes are produced by Mark and Caroline Chesebro at their Arroyo Seco and Carmel Valley Vineyards. The grapes grown here are the source for our sauvignon blanc, merlot, syrah, Grenache and pinot noir. Chesebro Winery is where R. Debauche’s operations are currently located.

Fiddletown Road Vineyard

Plymouth, CA

Art Toy is the owner of a beautiful 20-acre vineyard on Fiddletown Road in Plymouth, California.
Art’s immaculately maintained property includes the varietals barbera, primitive and syrah.

R. Debauche supports water conservation.

Water is essential to the production of wine, but it can require up to 300 bottles of water or more to produce a single bottle of wine. Most of the grapes grown in California are irrigated and can require 300,000 gallons of applied water or more per acre each year.

Our 2017 Zinfandel comes from Bill Stokes’s vineyard near Lodi CA, which uses dry-farming techniques to grow its grapes. In dry farming, little or no water is applied during the irrigation season.

R. Debauche is working towards having all its wines be water neutral. Water neutral means that all the water used to grow the grapes and produce the wine is offset by water conservation measures within the watershed where the grapes are grown. We will keep you updated in our efforts to achieve water neutrality.

Our Partners in Water Neutrality

In order to offset the water used in producing our wines we must partner with organizations who implement water conservation programs.

We are currently partnering with Amador Water Agency by providing them with water conservation fixtures which they distribute free to their customers. This offsets water use from our wines with grapes originating in Plymouth and Lodi. We hope to partner in the future with agencies in Monterrey County.

About Us

Richard has been making wine in the East Bay since 2008. Shane joined him in these endeavors in 2012. They formed R. Debauche Winery in 2018. Besides Richard and Shane who do the winemaking, R. Debauche has five other partners on our “Board of Directors” who advise us on winemaking, website development, marketing, water accounting and plenty of other subjects. They also occasionally help out in production. These partners include Susan Jamison, Doug Henderson, Tia Lebherz, Steven Donaldson, and Will Chesebro.
